Las Vegas Pool Action in Downtown Scottsdale

I'm not too sure that Arizona is ready to have a little Las Vegas experience, even in Scottsdale.  I love the concept, but I'm kind of afraid that the party people of the area will still fly to Vegas for their fun weekend.  But, for now, let's talk about Maya Day and Nightclub.

This 23,700 square foot beach club will be concentrating on entertainment and fun.
Maya is a 9,700-square-foot nightclub and a 17,600-square-foot patio with rentable daybeds, lounges and cabanas.
Built by Triyar Cos. as a temple to the cult of the DJ, the venue highlights mixmasters inside and out, with both spaces designed symmetrically around DJ booths. The first month of booked shows reflects years of those connected with the project talking up Maya to big names in the electronic- and dance-music world. So early headliners include Calvin Harris (at $70 per ticket for general admission), Morgan Page and Steve Aoki.

“Before, DJs were afterthoughts, in the corner. Now, everything is focused on the DJ,” said director of entertainment Steve LeVine, of Scottsdale-based Steve LeVine Entertainment and Public Relations. “The DJ is so much the focus that we’re even going to sell tickets for tables next to the booth outside, so you can party with the DJ.
With a roughly 1,400-person capacity, Maya is the Valley’s second resort-pool-without-the-resort venue, and its most ambitious. As envisioned by Triyar co-owner Shawn Yari, the space serves as an anchor for his redeveloped nightlife district that has also included improvements such as widened sidewalks and street landscaping.

The revitalization started in 2011, when El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria, Majerle’s Sports Grill and Wild Knight opened on Saddlebag Trail. Since then, rock and roll bar HiFi Kitchen andCocktails has opened. Coming this summer: Irish bar Derby Public House, country bar Whiskey Row and a yoga studio meets juice bar.

During the day and late night, Maya will serve tacos, ceviche and other Mexican food, both inside the venue and to the street via a service window. But the most buzz-worthy items on the menu are likely to be the slushies. The frozen cocktails ($10), with names like Beach Ball Tango and Desert Storm, are dispensed from in-wall slushie machines that serve as the focal point of the main outdoor bar.
At the entrance, Moroccan-style lanterns hang over the open-air, two-story foyer; and gray metal latticework doors open out onto the patio. There, fuchsia bougainvillea add color to a pastel poolscape studded with patches of fake grass and finished with tall palms, great pendant lights strung between them. A tiny guest shop sells hats, sunscreen, lip gloss and sunglasses.
In the club, concentric rings of light flash above the circular dance floor, which is flanked by two rows of bottle-service booths. Plexiglass trapezoid ice buckets glint in the disco lights, posed just so on black octagon tables. Bottle service starts at $350. Servers clad in lingerie — black bustiers, panties, thigh-highs and garter belts — dash about.
Simply said - It looks amazing!
Here's one of the vids I found on line about this new hot spot -

Photos from the grand opening - and more
Packed house

Where else can you get fire performers by in the pool?

and mermaids -
The decor is definitely not what you find in Arizona clubs!  It's amazing!
Unique pool entertainment
Calvin Harris is just one of the live music spinners !

Question number one - is this going to be a party place only or will it be a place for day/night relaxation too?
It will take a bit of time to tell that one.

And - question number two - and the one that I am really curious about -
is there a bikini shop at
Maya Day & Night Club?

There should be and they should carry Exposure Swimwear.
I'll be checking it out soon.

If you are one of those people who hops on  Southwest Airlines and fly to Las Vegas  for a fun weekend, it may be worth giving the Maya a try.  If you want to do a bit of gambling, Casino Arizona is just around the corner.  Or Talking Stick Resort has your Casino, golf and an amazing spaAnd Scottsdale is packed with every kind of shopping you could imagine.  Again - Scottsdale Fashion Square and Old Town Scottsdale are just up the road.

There's not much info on Maya Day & Nightclub Facebook page yet, but you can keep track of events here.  Check it out and follow them.  I, for one, would like to see this club 'make it'.

Valentine's Day - Destination Bucket List

      HAPPY  VALENTINE'S  DAY

What a perfect place to spend this holiday - a heart shaped island in the Fiji chain of islands - Tavarua Island.

The entire area of Tavarua , which is close to the main Fujian island of  Viti Levu, is only 29 acres but has everything you could ever want to do on an island trip.
Activities on Tavarua include surfing, sport fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking; there's a pool, spa, workout facility and tennis court along with a restaurant facility and two bars.
Into  the surfing ? There are seven main surfing breaks: Cloudbreak, Restaurants, Tavarua Rights, Swimming Pools, Namotu Left, Wlikes and Desperations which are all world class waves. Cloudbreak, being the most famous of the surrounding waves, is a powerful left a mile off the island that breaks over coral reef. Beginning surfers can enjoy fun learning waves directly in front of the island at Kiddieland. The island even hosts annual professional surfing competitions that can be viewed via webcast.  I do wonder about one thing - since this island is surrounded by coral reef, how does that effect the surfing?  Can you tell, I am not a surfer?
For me - I just want to kick back and relax on this beautiful sandy beach.

Teen Week with Makeup Univeristy

The bikini season is closing in on us and we are all thinking about what we need to do to be prepared for showing off more skin.  Are you thinking - do my legs look flabby, did the winter take it's tole on my mid area, did my boobs start to sag a bit while the weather was nippy?  These are crazy thoughts but most women and a lot of men go through this every year.

Makeup University is covering Teen Week with some great ideas that will begin to put your mind at ease.  One article in particular is about 'modest coverage' for teens.  What do you think?  Can a teen wear a bikini and still feel 'modest'?  How much coverage is appropriate for a teenager?  There are a lot of factors and they are different for every girl.

Check this out and then come back and visit us for great articles about the newest styles, for women of all ages and sizes.

Santa Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Santa has gone healthy, wants to fit into his beach wear and look good too.  So this year we are going to help him along with a great Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie.  Check this out.

About 45 cookies
Active Time:
Total Time:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats, (not quick-cooking)
  • 1/2 cup whole-wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chip

    Preparation

1.Position racks in upper and lower thirds of oven; preheat to 350°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

    2. Whisk oats, whole-wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl. Beat butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer until blended into a paste. Add granulated sugar and brown sugar; continue beating until well combined; the mixture will still be a little grainy. Beat in egg, then egg white, then vanilla. Stir in the oat mixture with a wooden spoon until just moistened. Stir in chocolate chips.

    3. With damp hands, roll 1 tablespoon of the batter into a ball, place it on a prepared baking sheet and flatten it until squat, but don’t let the sides crack. Continue with the remaining batter, spacing the flattened balls 2 inches apart.

    4. Bake the cookies until golden brown, about 16 minutes, switching the pans back to front and top to bottom halfway through. Cool on the pans for 2 minutes, then transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely. Let the pans cool for a few minutes before baking another batch.

Holiday On The Beach

We all know what it is like to dream on that meaningful walk on the beach.  Sharing our thoughts with friends.  Relaxing.  Feeling like this is the very best way to get in a little exercise.  And there is no better time than the present to do just that.

Grab a friend or three and take that little stroll.  Remember, the next week could be a crazy one.
