Las Vegas Pool Action in Downtown Scottsdale

I'm not too sure that Arizona is ready to have a little Las Vegas experience, even in Scottsdale.  I love the concept, but I'm kind of afraid that the party people of the area will still fly to Vegas for their fun weekend.  But, for now, let's talk about Maya Day and Nightclub.

This 23,700 square foot beach club will be concentrating on entertainment and fun.
Maya is a 9,700-square-foot nightclub and a 17,600-square-foot patio with rentable daybeds, lounges and cabanas.
Built by Triyar Cos. as a temple to the cult of the DJ, the venue highlights mixmasters inside and out, with both spaces designed symmetrically around DJ booths. The first month of booked shows reflects years of those connected with the project talking up Maya to big names in the electronic- and dance-music world. So early headliners include Calvin Harris (at $70 per ticket for general admission), Morgan Page and Steve Aoki.

“Before, DJs were afterthoughts, in the corner. Now, everything is focused on the DJ,” said director of entertainment Steve LeVine, of Scottsdale-based Steve LeVine Entertainment and Public Relations. “The DJ is so much the focus that we’re even going to sell tickets for tables next to the booth outside, so you can party with the DJ.
With a roughly 1,400-person capacity, Maya is the Valley’s second resort-pool-without-the-resort venue, and its most ambitious. As envisioned by Triyar co-owner Shawn Yari, the space serves as an anchor for his redeveloped nightlife district that has also included improvements such as widened sidewalks and street landscaping.

The revitalization started in 2011, when El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria, Majerle’s Sports Grill and Wild Knight opened on Saddlebag Trail. Since then, rock and roll bar HiFi Kitchen andCocktails has opened. Coming this summer: Irish bar Derby Public House, country bar Whiskey Row and a yoga studio meets juice bar.

During the day and late night, Maya will serve tacos, ceviche and other Mexican food, both inside the venue and to the street via a service window. But the most buzz-worthy items on the menu are likely to be the slushies. The frozen cocktails ($10), with names like Beach Ball Tango and Desert Storm, are dispensed from in-wall slushie machines that serve as the focal point of the main outdoor bar.
At the entrance, Moroccan-style lanterns hang over the open-air, two-story foyer; and gray metal latticework doors open out onto the patio. There, fuchsia bougainvillea add color to a pastel poolscape studded with patches of fake grass and finished with tall palms, great pendant lights strung between them. A tiny guest shop sells hats, sunscreen, lip gloss and sunglasses.
In the club, concentric rings of light flash above the circular dance floor, which is flanked by two rows of bottle-service booths. Plexiglass trapezoid ice buckets glint in the disco lights, posed just so on black octagon tables. Bottle service starts at $350. Servers clad in lingerie — black bustiers, panties, thigh-highs and garter belts — dash about.
Simply said - It looks amazing!
Here's one of the vids I found on line about this new hot spot -

Photos from the grand opening - and more
Packed house

Where else can you get fire performers by in the pool?

and mermaids -
The decor is definitely not what you find in Arizona clubs!  It's amazing!
Unique pool entertainment
Calvin Harris is just one of the live music spinners !

Question number one - is this going to be a party place only or will it be a place for day/night relaxation too?
It will take a bit of time to tell that one.

And - question number two - and the one that I am really curious about -
is there a bikini shop at
Maya Day & Night Club?

There should be and they should carry Exposure Swimwear.
I'll be checking it out soon.

If you are one of those people who hops on  Southwest Airlines and fly to Las Vegas  for a fun weekend, it may be worth giving the Maya a try.  If you want to do a bit of gambling, Casino Arizona is just around the corner.  Or Talking Stick Resort has your Casino, golf and an amazing spaAnd Scottsdale is packed with every kind of shopping you could imagine.  Again - Scottsdale Fashion Square and Old Town Scottsdale are just up the road.

There's not much info on Maya Day & Nightclub Facebook page yet, but you can keep track of events here.  Check it out and follow them.  I, for one, would like to see this club 'make it'.

Too Old For The Bikini?

I think we would all agree that there are limitations to wearing the bikini and two piece swimsuit.  Right?  I mean - there are size, age, body shape and situational limitations.  Right?  Well, I saw this photo of a woman on the Internet, sporting a two piece swimsuit, and thought that this lady is just a bit old to wearing suit.  I Googled this woman and my thoughts on limitations may have changed a bit.

Meet  CayetanaFitz-James Stuart, 18th Duchess of Alba.  The Duchess was born at the Liria Palace on March 28, 1926, making here  86 years of age.  The matriarch's supreme title is Duchess of Alba, but she has more than 40 others.  According to Guinness World Records, she has more titles recognized by an existing government than any other noble in the world.

Here’s a list of her Duchess Titles
15th Duchess of Aliaga, Grandee of Spain -Ceded to her son
   Don Alfonso Martínez
18th Duchess of Alba, Grandee of Spain
3rd Duchess of Arjona, Grandee of Spain
11th Duchess of Berwick, Grandee of Spain
17th Duchess of Híjar, Grandee of Spain
11th Duchess of Liria and Jérica, Grandee of Spain
11th Duchess of Montoro, Grandee of Spain -Ceded to her               daughter Doña Eugenia

And here is the series of photos that I saw of her enjoying the beach with her husband, 61 year old Alfonso Diez.  Do you understand my first impression?
During my little bit of research, I found some amazing photos.  This woman is such a fashionista.  Amazing, as you will see.
Are you seeing this?  Sassy, classy, sheik, elegant, chic - she does it all.
and I think she has always been fun and classy.
I do love the granny look.  And the flowers and smile that goes with
it.

After viewing all the history and the photos of this woman, I have come to the conclusion that, if a woman in her 80's, has a husband in his 60's, and there is a two piece swim suit that is made to fit her, she should go for it if she desires.  Why not enjoy life to the fullest as long as you can.
Go for it Duchess !

Drying Out

My favorite vacation spots are on beaches so it makes sense that most of the tips that I can offer are based on that.  This tip will work for you not matter where you are, especially if there are swim suits involved.

Getting your swimwear dry is important in many ways, especially when it is the suit you want to put back on the next day.  In most cases, you don't want to wash your suit after each wearing and it usually doesn't have to be.  If on the beach, rinse off with the suit on, at the beach shower, if available.  If no shower where you are - use that handy gallon of water that you tote around for rinsing hand, feet and suits.  Take along a few of those hangers with the slots on top to hang you suits on.  They take up little room and are handy to have.

While driving around you can hang the suits on the clothing hooks in the car.  When stopped for a road side picnic or stretch you legs break, you can hang them on the edge of the doors to get better ventilation.  (Keep an eye on those suits; a not so honest passer by may snag them; especially if they are one of the really cute suits from Exposure Swimwear) And when you get back to the room, they can hang anyplace the air circulates enough to continue the drying process.

So hang it up
instead of laying it out or wadding it up

This is a simple way to save laundry mat coins and helps to extend the life of the suits.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2012 - WOW !

Boy – David Letterman really knows how to keep the guys up after the news.  On February 14, 2011 the top 10 was done by the Sports Illustrated swim suit models.  This was one of Letterman’s best ideas yet to keep the public staying up a little late.  Tho the model’s delivery was poor at best, they weren’t there to show their acting talents and they did their job perfectly.  Also that evening, a giant billboard in Times Square unveiled the 2012 cover of Kate Upton as the newest addition to SI Swimsuit covers.  I, like millions of others around the world, tuned in to Letterman and then purchased this issue of SII to check out the new swim wear designs and to see what lucky designers scantily cloth this year’s beauties.

Let’s start at the beginning with a really brief history – it is interesting and obviously not without some controversy.
In the winter of 1964, Sports Illustrated magazine was in its usual sales slump. So the editorial staff at SI decided to try something new.  Fashion reporter Jule Campbell was chosen as SI’s first swimsuit editor and that changed the sport magazine for eternity.
Babette Marche, a model in a racy bikini was splashed across the cover for their new February issue and the very first SI swimsuit issue was a sellout.  From this point on the swimsuit edition became an annual winter tradition, having sports fans by the millions were waiting by their mailboxes for its delivery and mail men spending a bit of their lunch time catching up on the latest in the sporty world of swimwear.

In 1983, SI rolled out its first swimsuit calendar. This was followed by a television documentary of Sports Illustrated's 25th Anniversary Swimsuit Issue. Over the next two decades, a compilation of videos, TV specials, trading cards, cell phone screen savers, and other secondary products have contributed to an additional $10 million in revenue.  Ms. Campbell must be so proud.

In 1997, SI's swimsuit edition received special-issue status. It has since become the single best-selling issue in Time Inc.'s magazine franchise.

In 2005, the swimsuit issue brought in an estimated $35 MILLION in ad sales and today it generates 7 percent of Sports Illustrated's annual revenue, according to SI editor Terry McDonnell. The swimsuit issue isn't just a benefit to its advertisers — bikini and jewelry designers whose items are featured in the special issue also experience a major boost in sales.

Yep – here is yet another goal for Exposure Swimwear – a little hit in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.  We set our goals high and don’t plan on ever changing that.

The 2006 landmark "topless" cover featured models Veronica Varekova, Elle Macpherson, Rebecca Romijn, Rachel Hunter, Daniela Pestova, Elsa Benitez, Carolyn Murphy and Yamila Diaz. Inside, Heidi Klum was the featured photo spread and  to keep it fairly legit as a sports issue, tennis pro Maria Sharapova also appeared.  This cover may be a bit edgy but still done in great taste.

The models have gone electronic! In February 2011, Sport Illustrated also began selling its first-ever digital subscription apps, available on Google Android, which coincided with the release of its swimsuit issue. This year, Sports Illustrated and Sony released a half-hour "Swimsuit in 3-D" video, exclusively for PlayStation 3 owners available through the PlayStation store.

During Jule Campbell’s 31-year reign from 1965 to 1996, Campbell transformed the publication from a daring little glossy section, featuring a few bikini-clad women into a commercial power house. Sports Illustrated can be credited with launching the era of the beach models, giving that all important break that boosted the careers of Tyra Banks, Christie Brinkley, Rachel Hunter, Elle Macpherson, Kathy Ireland and the many others who graced it’s cover.
Regular Sports Illustrated has more than three million subscribers and is read by about 23 million people a week.  The swimsuit issue traditionally sells more than 1 million copies on newsstands. This year, the magazine features Kate Upton and sells for $6.99 per copy.  Fortunately, fans no longer have to wait anxiously at their mailboxes for the hard copy, and enjoy almost instantaneous access to the swimsuit issue online - including model profiles, behind the scenes photo shoots and video clips, along with an entire archive of favorite editions.

It's a leap year

Leap year had nothing to do with swimwear, not really, but it just was a thought that I had while attempting to get my mind wrapped around getting back to work.  And working does have to do with swimwear.  So - what a strange title to put on a year that has an extra day.  To be specific, each year is 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes, and 12 seconds; thus the need to add an extra day in every 4 years.  But why call it 'leap year'?  Actually - Julius Ceasar is the Father of Leap Year; conception 45 BC..  And in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII further refined the calendar with the rule that leap day would occur in any year divisible by 4.  If you think about this, it make no more sense than my writing about Leap Year instead of swimwear.

What comes to your mind when you think about the word 'leap'?
Perhaps -  The Boss, Bruce Stringsteen and the song Leap Of Faith.  This is a great clip of the video

If you are the brainiac type, quantum leap, which is an atomic electron transition or similar transitions between quantum states, which are scientific phenomena, may automatic play in your mind.
Television trivia your cup of tea ? Then we have Quantum Leap - the science fiction series with

With the holidays so recently behind us, you may still be thinking about 'Lords a leaping'.

Or just maybe, you are thinking about this little goody that popped up on Google when I typed in 'Lords a leaping'.   Yep - still trying to figure this one out, but it does
bring me back to where I need to be.  When you look at the site shown below, you will see that it says 'Everyman Speedo'.   Now we are back to swimwear.  Not the type that Exposure Products makes ( not very often anyway ) but swimwear none the less.

Muslim swimwear - should I or should I not ?

Ok  -  I have fitted and made swimsuits for almost every size and age imaginable.  Even a few guys but we don't even want to go there right now.  But I have yet to consider making a swim suit for a Muslim woman.

I mean - is there a danger in this?  If the fabric is too heavy when wet will there be a risk of weighing down the woman and having her drown?  I just don't know and have never even given it any thought until now.

While looking for a site to purchase some 'muslin' fabric I made my typical error in typing and ended up finding a site with actually photos of the Muslim swimwear.

So what do you think?  Is there a market here in the United States for this?  Is there a future for us here?
Please let me know what you think.
